Video viewing can’t be a waiting game
A new study from the University of Massachusetts shows that people have a lack of tolerance for delays when they stream video on the internet. In sum, the study finds that even a start up delay of two seconds is too long for many of these folks, and the amount of people abandoning the content increases as this delay gets worse. This has huge implications for online video consumption, given the current increasing demands on an already highly stressed internet. The need to deliver content seamlessly, without delay, is paramount to today’s viewer of live and, especially, on-demand programming. Even the best content will be ignored and therefore rendered without value if it cannot be presented quickly to today’s demanding viewer.
Enter Tablet TV. Tablet TV will take advantage of the universally available and beautifully robust over-the-air broadcast system to deliver perfect HD pictures direct to an iPad or other tablet or smartphone without delays or interruptions. Because we can transmit on-demand programming through the air by maximizing the carrying capacity of the existing broadcast signal, and then have that programming held in the memory of each viewer’s portable device, our viewers will be able to watch what they want instantly. Removing the internet from the delivery mechanism results in a solution which can be used by everyone at once, with no added delays. Additionally, the experience will be even more rewarding because of the stunning picture.
Tablet TV’s software will also enable watch and record for all local broadcast channels for each tablet owner that has purchased an inexpensive receiving device or whose tablet has television reception capability built in. For those who are impatient with their streaming video reception, are tired of running up data plan charges or don’t even have access to an internet hotspot, Tablet TV will give them great viewing options, including all their primetime network shows and many major sporting events. Convenience, quality and speed are what video consumers demand. They’ll keep looking until they find it. Our business is built on that simple truth.
